The fruit for our 2015 Pinot Gris wine is Estate grown and is sourced from our vineyard in Gumeracha. The vineyard is planted with 2 blocks of Gris with 2 different aspects. The grapes for this wine is sourced from our cooler Road Block which is on a moderate slope that faces due East and catches the early morning sun missing out on the more intense afternoon sun.
The 2015 growing season was one which has produced beautiful wines both white and red. The summer was filled with mild and sunny ripening periods with the odd burst of heat but never too hot. The advantage of the Adelaide Hills is it can get warm during the day but the nights can be bitterly cold even in the peak of summer. The season was one with well-developed canopies, good yields and perfect temperatures that produced full flavoured Pinot Gris.
Winemaking responsibilities rest with Mark Kozned and all our wines are made at our Revenir winery located in the Adelaide Hills. The 2015 wine is our 5th vintage made at the winery which we acquired at the beginning of 2011.
The grapes were handpicked to protect the colour and the quality of the grapes with the aim of retaining the maximum varietal characters. The grapes were gently crushed, destemmed and chilled prior o gentle airbag pressing with only the free run juice retained. The oak component (less than 5%) spent approximately 5 months on yeast lees before being racked and combined with the tank-fermented wine. The wine in tank is fermented at low temperatures for approximately 20 to 30 days to enhance the retention of natural acidity and retain the wines varietal characters.
